IDEA-‐C Workshop Report Instituto Piaget, Portugal
Summary IDEA-‐C Project (Inter-‐Cultural Dimension for European Active Citizenship), funded by Europe for Citizens Programme, is focused on the causes for the high absenteeism rates at the European elections and in the solutions eventually found through a European Citizenship awareness and sensitization approach near youngsters. The project's partnership is composed by 14 Institutions from 13 EU Member States. The Portuguese partner is Instituto Piaget Cooperativa para o Desenvolvimento Humano Integral e Ecológico, CRL. IDEA‐C runs a set of international and national events, including the development of a local workshop by each partner. The following document aims to describe the organization and the used approach to the workshop developed by the Portuguese partner. Instituto Piaget is an Institution focused on the implementation of Educational projects for graduation and post‐graduation of Higher Education, research, scientific and cultural dissemination and social intervention, promoting human and social development. Irrespective of the greatest diversity of people attending the Institution's courses, the majority are young adults to whom all the issues related to European Citizenship, civic life participation and electoral participation are of great importance. We are aware that in the case of the young adults, political participation through elections is showing low intervention rates (Menezes, Afonso, Gião & Amaro, 2005). The IDEA-‐C team, in Instituto Piaget, is composed by Professor Isabel Alves, Professor Rita Barros Project Manager, Carla Almeida and Project Manager José Bronze. This team was responsible for the design and implementation of the workshop. Methodologie Used The design of the workshop consisted of two sessions following the same programme but targeting different students within Instituto Piaget, one in the North and another in the South of Portugal. The first workshop, registering a higher number of participants, was divided into two moments, a face‐to‐face moment and a virtual (online) moment. The second workshop had only the face‐to‐face moment.
